Once you get past the rather fanciful conceit of George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino (who wrote the movie) being cast as brothers, From Dusk Till Dawn is a rather effective mid-budget horror-action flick: weird, violent and deliriously over the top. Clooney and Tarantino are bank robbers on the lam. After a blood-soaked crime spree, the boys escape into Mexico and await their contact at a strip club in a remote desert remote location. Once inside, they join a boisterous crowd on hand to witness the multitudinous talents of the club’s featured performer. Who, like all the other club employees, just happens to be a nasty vampire. For a generation of impressionable lads, Salma Hayek, playing the fantastically named Santánico Pandemónium, was the stuff of dreams—and nightmares.
