Hackers have infiltrated Nairobi Online Development Plan and illegally approved construction of 18 buildings in the city.
Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) director-general Mohamed Badi said the hackers were former City Hall staff who colluded with outsiders to do the illegal approvals.
Some hackers arrested
According to Mohamed, some of the hackers were arrested after alert to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which immediately swung into action.
“The hacking paved the way for illegal building approvals to be made, and there were 18 illegal approvals done when the system was hacked into, forcing us to suspend it,” said Mohamed.Illegal construction at 3,000-year-old temple site angers Hindus
The DCI sleuths are still going on with their investigations to ensure that all the perpetrators involved in the illegal approval of the 18 buildings are brought to book.
“The hackers are not strangers; they are just retired county staff who had access to the system and are now working with outsiders to do illegal approvals," he added.According to Business Daily, the NMS boss regretted that that desperate city residents landed in the hands of these conniving dealers and got illegal approvals of their buildings.
No construction without legal approval
The general stressed that NMS will not allow any construction of buildings that had not been approved by the Nairobi City County Urban Planning Technical Committee to happen.
“City residents have suffered in the hands of conmen, but unfortunately, as NMS, we will not allow a single building to go up without the proper approval by the technical committee on urban planning,” he said.Aden Duale Calls for Speedy Appointment of IEBC Commissioners Ahead of 2022 Polls
However, the NMS boss divulged that they had sealed the loopholes with the help of the experts from the Ministry of ICT and security agencies.
In other news, NMS will take 1,000 City askaris to Kiganjo Police College for character training.
As a way of instilling discipline and mending the dented image of city administrators, the Nairobi NMS will take them through a four-month training.
This will be done in conjunction with the National Police Service (NPS), whose officers will train the administrators who are expected to join the Kiganjo and Embakasi police training colleges.
