Students at Moi Girls High School in Eldoret went on the rampage on Wednesday, February 17, demanding the removal of their school principal.

They accused their school head, Christine Chumba, of harassment and corruption.

Grievances raised

Other issues that the learners raised include;

1. Technical subject's practicals were not being administered due to lack of funds, and the available equipment had not been serviced.

2. Constant power outages in the school, yet the institution has a generator inconveniencing them during prep time.

3. The principal was not conversant with important school information, including when KCSE will commence.

4. Insufficient books and the library's complete closure compelling to buy books that the schools would have easily provided as per the fee structure.

5. Students, especially Form 1 and 2, are being overworked, leaving them with limited time to concentrate on their studies.

6. Constant change of school routine and menu, leading to confusion.

7. Being denied the right to worship. The principal has closed the Muslim prayer room claiming praying is wasting time.

8. Reduction in the amount of food served in the kitchen, yet the fee has not been adjusted.

9. Students with serious health conditions are not being accommodated in school.

10. Constant water loss making it difficult to adhere to COVID-19 protocols.

11. The principal does not want sick students to visit the sanatorium. She has limited the time students can visit the health facility

12. Evidentt mismanagement of funds that could have been channelled to more productive areas.

As previously reported, the institution was, closed indefinitely following the unrest.

The learners were given until Thursday, February 18, to vacate.
