INEC Releases New Voters List To Parties

Nigeria’s electoral agency, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the list of new voters to registered political parties.

Naija News reports that INEC released the list in compliance with the timetable and schedule of activities released over the weekend by INEC and the Electoral Act 2022.

The agency said Section 10(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 states that “the Commission shall, within 60 days after each year, make available to every political party the names and addresses of each person registered during that year.”

Speaking with reporters at the end of the commission’s management meeting on Tuesday, INEC spokesman, Festus Okoye, said the list was released in preparation for the 2023 general elections.

Okoye disclosed that the electoral agency has given softcopies of the list of persons registered as voters in 2021 to each political party.

The INEC spokesman said the commission has fulfilled two of the activities on the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2023 elections released on February 26.

Okoye said the commission has implemented the publication of the Notice of Election and the release of a new voters list to political parties.

2023 Elections: INEC Publishes Notice Of Election

It will be recalled that over the weekend, (INEC) announced new dates for the conduct of the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu who announced the change during a press conference in Abuja on Saturday said the new dates became necessary as a result of the 2022 amended electoral act recently signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the INEC Chairman, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday, February 25, 2023, instead of the earlier announced February 18 date.

Also, the governorship and state houses of assembly elections will hold on March 11, 2023.
